Rulewater offers some lovely forestry tracks and country roads to cycle along. Personally I use my bike to take me from one place to another, to slow things down a little and enjoy the scenery around me, I used to cycle everywhere when I was at university and love reverting back to pedal power when I can. The rural roads round these parts lend themselves well to more professional road cyclists who fancy a hilly challenge. Cycle Scottish Bordersoffers up some good longer distance routes in the Borders area. About an hour away you can reach Keilder Forest South, and Glentress Forest North, for some further cycling routes, along dirt tracks and into the forest itself.
Just Cycleis a local registered charity that has been set up with the aim of recycling and reusing bikes that would otherwise have been thrown out, located in Tweedbank about half an hour's drive from Rulewater.
